How Sensodyne works

Sensodyne toothpaste works in two ways to relieve the pain of sensitive teeth. This depends on the product's active ingredient, which is either Potassium Nitrate or Strontium Chloride.

Potassium Nitrate
»  Sensodyne Total Care Toothpaste
»  Sensodyne Total Care Gel
»  Sensodyne Fresh Impact
»  Sensodyne Gentle Whitening Toothpaste

Potassium works by calming nerves to stop the sensitivity associated with trigger activities, like eating ice cream or sipping hot coffee.

These toothpastes are formulated to provide total care for your sensitive teeth. They can be used twice daily, as you would a normal toothpaste, to give lasting relief from sensitive teeth and provide complete oral care.

All products contain Fluoride to help combat dental decay, plaque and help maintain healthy gums.

Strontium Chloride
»  Sensodyne Original

Beneath your tooth enamel is a layer called dentine, made from thousands of microscopic tubes or tubules. When the nerve endings within these tubules are exposed to triggers like cold drinks you will feel short, sharp pains.

Strontium Chloride helps block the tubules, preventing the nerve from being stimulated. Every time you brush with Sensodyne Original, you are building up a barrier to painful stimuli.
